Almost 9,000 extra train seats for Bath Half Marathon, says GWR
Great Western Railway will provide almost 9,000 extra seats to carry runners and supporters to and from Bath this coming Sunday, 15 October, for the Bath Half Marathon.
Providing a quick and reliable way to make it to the start line, and get tired legs home again, GWR will operate 15 more trains on top of the usual Sunday timetable. This is a whopping 50% increase in services between 0830 and 1550.
Those travelling are, however, being warned that trains will still be busy immediately before and after the event.
If you are travelling by train on race day, don’t get caught out. The first services of the day depart at the following times:
- Swindon to Bath Spa at 0901, arriving at 0926
- Westbury to Bath: 0840, arriving at 0907
- Bristol Temple Meads to Bath Spa: 0745, arriving at 0756
- Cardiff Central to Bath Spa: 0850, arriving at 1029
Bath Spa Station Manager Oana Apetroaie said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Bath Half runners and supporters alike to our world-famous city, helping to take the strain out of travelling on the day.
“While our friendly staff will be on hand to help keep people moving as they return to the station, I urge customers to allow time for their journeys as the city, and our trains, will be extremely busy immediately before and after the race.”
What times does it start?
Half marathon entrants have been allocated one of three waves, according to the predicted finish time selected, with the fastest runners setting off in the first wave at 1020, followed by a second wave at 1040 and a final wave at 1100. The race will start at a new location on Royal Avenue, in the heart of the World Heritage City, and loops around the city.
